Today the Access for All: YES on King County Proposition 1 campaign announced the endorsement of Bill Nye and released two new campaign ads featuring The Science Guy, who got his start in Seattle.

The ads, which can be viewed here and here, will begin on digital today, June 22, and will air on television in July.

An advocate for science education, Nye endorsed Prop. 1 because it will allow every student in King County to have access to hands-on science, arts and heritage education, helping to level the playing field and improve educational outcomes for students in every school district in King County. Science organizations that would expand programs for public school students and families include organizations from regional institutions like the Pacific Science Center, Seattle Aquarium and the Museum of Flight to smaller organizations like the Living Computer Museum and SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve.

"Before I was the science guy, I was just a kid, and it was hands-on learning that got me interested in science," Nye says in one of the ads. "But today, many schools can't afford field trips. King County Proposition 1 will change that, providing free transportation and access for schools, because tomorrow's marine biologists, paleontologists and research scientists are in today's classroom."

Nye rounds out a string of recent endorsements — including the Seattle | King County NAACP, the King County Labor Council, Downtown Seattle Association, Washington Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal, as well as legislative district Democrats groups from throughout the county and the King County Young Democrats.
